The ‘Asbestos Log Book’ must be retained at all premises. It needs to identify all locations of known and presumed ‘Asbestos Containing Materials’ (ACM’s).

Managers Responsibilities

Monthly Check of Known or Presumed Asbestos Containing Material

The Responsible Person must ensure the monthly log book sheet (1) is signed and at this time, a check to ensure that any contractors or other persons who may have disturbed the ACM’s has signed the appropriate form.

This is a duty that cannot be delegated and must be signed by the premises Responsible Person.

In addition to the log book check, from September 2013, the formal check of the site, looking at known or suspected asbestos must be undertaken and recorded monthly using the above monthly log sheet.

This check of the condition of the asbestos can be delegated to a nominated person who has received training

Asbestos Survey

This document must be located within the Asbestos log book. It is undertaken by a competent surveyor that has been commissioned by Facilities Management.

If you do not have this asbestos survey, contact Facilities Management who are based at Loxley House for further information.

What if my premises has no ‘known’ or ‘presumed asbestos’?

The log book is still required but there is no requirement to complete the monthly asbestos inspection (Form 1 can be identified as premises containing no asbestos), however the log book is still required to ensure that contractors see the log book and they are still required to sign (this is in case asbestos is discovered at a later date, those contractors can then be identified and contacted)
